Countermeasures against SPAM emails
and email-address-collecting robots.

Publishing your email address on your website makes it an easy target for the email-collecting robots of SPAM companies and so forth using automated email address collection programs.

About email-address-collecting robots and programs
The image below is a screen capture (listing table) when I accessed the address of supposedly a SPAM company logged in our access analysis.
To be honest, I was really surprised to learn that the list was open to outsiders and anyone could see it without any authentication processes in place.
The image where JavaScript is turned on.
In the listing table of collected email addresses by the collecting program, there were our URL address and the email addresses of the people who left their comments in my blog.
Judging from this, the collecting robot collected the information in my blog page. As this example shows, publishing your own email address means that you run the risk of exposing it to be collected by SPAM companies.
Oh, by the way... I had an experience before where I had much less SPAM mails after I had cancelled link registration for my website from the self-introductory link collections (listing email adresses) of a very well-known website. Considering how famous they are, it must be a regular path for email address collecting programs.

To prevent these automated programs from collecting your email address, you can show your address using JavaScript instead of HTML (tags) codes.

The idea of course is to avoid e-mail harvesters / spam.

There are some websites with some critical comments about the JavaScript display saying "There's a critical fault with it because people with their JavaScript turned off can not see it"....

I can say, "You're absolutely right". But to be argumentative, you turn off JavaScript mostly when your use of the browser is abnormal or you have evil intentions or feel guilty or need to browse porn sites often. So if it's intended only for JavaScript enabled users, I believe this is a very effective countermeasure against SPAM.

Oh well... Some people have JavaScript disabled when they browse from their workplaces. Is it work-related or just goofing around? That's a mystery...

* NOTE *
This Mailto: tag JavaScript conversion tool is just an example of JavaScript representation instead of HTML codes. Maybe you should not use JavaScript if you are a perfectionist.

Please use the tool with your own discretion and responsibility.
